Fundraising for MaD
All teams that participate in the MaD Tuk Tuk Challenge are required to fundraise as much as they can for MaD - Making a Difference for Good! Cambodia as a condition for participating in the challenge.

We can help you to set up a fundraising page on JustGiving or Ammado so that your families and friends can sponsor you for participating in the challenge. However, there are endless more possibilities when it comes to fundraising so we encourage you to be as creative as possible when thinking up ways to raise money for MaD. Here's a few suggestions to get you started:

  • Start up a Facebook group, invite all of your family and friends, tell them what you are doing, who you are raising money for and ask them to sponsor you outright for taking up the challenge. You can think of innovative ways to get them to give you more money, for example: get them to sponsor you per kilometre that you make it before breaking down or tell people that you will wear a crazy, ridiculous costume for the whole journey if you can raise a certain amount. All participants will be able to use our JustGiving account which makes raising money this way even easier!
  • Approach businesses and companies (preferably ones that you have contacts or links with) and ask them for direct sponsorship. Tell them that you are doing it for a good cause, mention the words ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ a lot and tell them you will even advertise their company’s logo on your TukTuk or uniform and display it to everyone along the way. Companies often like you to take lots of photos of you proudly displaying their logo on your trip so they can show potential customers how socially responsible they are, so saying that you will do this is a good way to reel them in! Companies that have a base in Cambodia as well as your home country are particularly good ones to approach…
  • Pull another crazy stunt (or several) and get people to sponsor you for doing that. This could be anything from running a marathon; jumping off a bridge or out of a plane (with a bungee rope or a parachute of course!); shaving your legs, hair or eyebrows; putting yourself in a stock and get people to pay to throw water balloons or something equally unpleasant at you or putting yourself up for auction for a date with a winning bidder. Again, imagination is the key here: a little will go a long way!
  • Bake some cakes, sweets or make some lovely accessories if you’re feeling creative and sell them to family and friends
  • Put on an event in your local town/city. Book out a venue (could be a bar or even a friend’s house), get some friends to DJ, play music or perform for you and charge people for entrance fees and/or for food and drinks.
  • Go round to peoples’ houses in your neighbourhood and offer to wash their cars or do some gardening for a fee
  • Sell your unwanted stuff on ebay or at a car-boot sale. You’d be amazed at how much you can make doing this!
  • Take a particular talent that you have to the streets and try your hand at busking. Remember to put up a sign saying that you’re raising money for charity!
  • Speak to your employer and see if they’d be willing to match the sponsorship that you raise. Many companies take pride in their employees doing charitable activities and are happy to contribute to sponsorship efforts.

And remember all along that this money won’t only be sending you on your way to the experience of a lifetime but will also go towards MaD Cambodia! in order to make a sustainable, long lasting difference in  the lives of Cambodia’s poorest in Siem Riep, a worthy enough cause in itself. Remember also, to make this a key aspect of all of your sponsorship activities: people are much less likely to give you money if they think they’re just going to finance you on a holiday!!

If you can't afford the entry fee to participate in the challenge you can also ask people to sponsor you to cover the costs for that. However, if you decide to do this, make sure you tell people that you are also asking for money to cover your entry fee and not just for MaD!
